Hiking with children in the Lechtal

Want to get your children to swap their Playstation for the great outdoors? Nothing could be easier, because children love hiking - as long as it's not about covering distances within a certain time frame.

These 5 hikes near LechZeit are ideal for families:

1 The Lechi Trail

This circular trail is located in Gramais, the smallest municipality in Austria. The trail offers everything you could wish for from a beautiful family hiking trail: forests, meadows, stream, waterfall and a gorge. Carved wooden figures can be found along the way. Imaginative stories can be spun around them.

Duration: approx. 2 hours

Length: around 5 km

Suitable for pushchairs: No

Only accessible by car!

2 Doser waterfall

The circular trail to the Doser waterfall is ideal for hot days. It is located in the neighbouring municipality of Häselgehr. Between April and November it is a thundering waterfall, after that it is just a trickle. What is presumably due to an underground lake has inspired numerous legends over the years. The trail leads along many small streams where it is safe to play. The way back is along a wild and romantic forest path.

Duration: approx. 1 hour

Length: around 2.5 km

Suitable for pushchairs: Yes

Accessible by regional bus!

3 Vitality Trail Holzgau

This trail is all about the health teachings of Sebastian Kneipp. Water, exercise, nutrition, herbs and balance can be experienced up close at 12 stations. All of this is embedded in a wonderful landscape that lets you feel the power of nature. There is a free adventure booklet ‘Lechi and the golden watering can’ for children. It is an instructive companion on the journey of discovery and contains numerous puzzles. Start and end is the municipal office in Holzgau.

Duration: approx. 1 1/2  hours

Length: around 4 km

Suitable for pushchairs: No

Accessible by regional bus!

4 Connys Adlerweg

This trail in Elbigenalp leads to the Gibler Alm and is very popular with children. No wonder, because the carved figures along the way make it entertaining and as a reward, a great playground and a cool drink await at the Gibler Alm after the ascent.

Duration: approx. 1 hour

Length: around 2.6 km

Suitable for pushchairs: No, but there is a cosy forest road to the Gibler Alm as an alternative.

Accessible by regional bus!

5 Almdorf Fallerschein

The idyllic alpine village of Fallerschein lies between Stanzach and Namlos. With around 40 wooden houses and huts, it is considered the largest alpine village in Tyrol. The trail starts at the Fallerschein junction on the main road between Stanzach and Namlos and leads partly along a tarmac forest road suitable for pushchairs to the alpine village. Fallerschein is a popular excursion destination, not least because of the good alpine cuisine that awaits hikers in the two huts there.

Duration: approx. 2 hours

Length: around 4.5 km

Suitable for pushchairs: Yes

Accessible by regional bus!
