Alpine Cattle Drives

The traditional Alpine cattle drives are among the highlights of autumn. Festively decorated cattle return from the alpine pastures, accompanied by music, regional delicacies and convivial celebrations in the villages.

When autumn arrives in the Lechtal Valley

As the days grow shorter and the first autumn colours adorn the Lechtal Alps, the impressive roar of the stags can be heard early in the morning and during the evening hours.

A deep, powerful sound that echoes through the forests and mountains, creating a truly special atmosphere during this beautiful time of year.

A slice of Lechtal tradition brought to life – the cattle drive

Steeg – Saturday, 12 September 2026

The cattle drive in Steeg is considered the largest in the Tyrolean Außerfern region.

• from around 11.00 am: Arrival of the decorated animals
  Young cattle and cows from several Lechtal alpine pastures
  From early afternoon: festivities with live music
  Regional delicacies
  In the evening: arrival of the herdsmen and drovers accompanied by the ringing of cowbells
  Prize draw for a particularly beautiful cowbell
  The main road will be closed for several hours – please allow plenty of time for your journey.

Lechtal Aktiv Card

The Lechtal Aktiv Card offer is valid from 14 May to 26 October 2026.

Regiobus
Public transport is very important in the Tyrolean Lechtal valley! It takes you free of charge to the most beautiful hiking destinations between Steeg and Reutte and even goes as far as Lech am Arlberg. Its route also takes you to the Lechtal side valleys of Kaisers, Gramais, Hinterhornbach, Bschlabs/Boden and over the Hahntennjoch to Imst.

Excluding bike transport: £5.00 per bike/e-bike per day.

Summer mountain railways
With the Lechtal Aktiv Card, you can also travel free of charge or at greatly reduced prices on fast routes into the heart of the impressive mountain world of the Allgäu and Lechtal Alps. Card holders can travel once per day and per railway free of charge or at a reduced rate on the open summer railways in Bach, Reutte, Warth and Lech am Arlberg.

Frei- & Hallenbäder
Zu stark ermäßigten Preisen geht es mit der Lechtal Aktiv Card ins Frei- oder Hallenbad! Mit diesen attraktiven Preisen locken das Freibad in Bach/Elbigenalp, in der idyllischen Lechtaler Gemeinde Häselgehr sowie das großzügig angelegte Naturerlebnis- bad „Badino“ in Vorderhornbach mit Natursprungfelsen, Liane und Spielbach. Wer lieber indoor badet, kann mit der Aktiv Card das Hallenbad „Aqua Nova“ in Steeg und die „Alpentherme Ehrenberg“ in Reutte preisreduziert besuchen.

Winter time

Winter preview in LechZeit

Outside, the snow glistens, the River Lech flows peacefully through the valley, and the snow-capped mountains beckon with winter adventures for young and old alike.

Whether it’s skiing on the Arlberg, a leisurely winter walk along the Lech, snowshoeing through the snow-covered countryside or a challenging ski tour – the Lech Valley offers countless opportunities to experience the Alpine landscape in winter.

Just a few kilometres away, Warth-Schröcken and Ski Arlberg – one of Austria’s largest contiguous ski areas – await.

Around 130 kilometres of groomed winter walking trails lead through the tranquil landscape, past the River Lech and through snow-covered forests. Cosy winter huts along the way invite you to stop for a break.

The Lech Valley is also a true paradise for ski tourers. A special highlight of the season is the Lech Valley Ski Touring Days from 20 to 24 January 2027, featuring guided tours and a varied programme.

The Lech Valley is one of Tyrol’s most beautiful cross-country skiing regions. On over 190 kilometres of perfectly groomed trails, cross-country skiers can experience the unique winter landscape along the wild River Lech, through snow-covered forests and across vast meadows. Both classic-style and skate-style skiers will find plenty to enjoy here.
